Room 5 Readers

We have been enjoying lots of reading activities this term, especially during Scottish Book Week.
In class, we have been reading George's Marvellous Medicine and now the Chistmasaurus as our class novels with Miss Lowther, and have also been working on Room on the Broom, The Storm Whale and The Storm Whale in Winter with Mrs Hutchison.
Foe The Storm Whale and The Storm Whale in Winter we have created class journals. We've done lots of activities as a class (such as character studies, compare and contrast activities, storyboards, as well as Art and Drama) and put some of this work into one big book by our class for everyone to see! Have a look next time you are in our classroom!

End of Term 1

We have had a busy first term in Primary 2!

We started the year off learning all about Six Dinner Sid. We drew line drawings of Sid and used lots of wonderful describing adjectives to describe him. We also learned about odd and even numbers during maths time and created our very own ‘Odd and Even Street’ for Sid to live on.

We have also been learning about or local community and Renfrew! We looked at maps of Renfrew and identified lots of places of interest within our local area, we used these maps to guide us on our community walks to th church and on our litter pick. We also designed our own Coat of Arms for Renfrew and explored all th different types of housing within our local community.

During European week we explored a variety of French landmarks and drew line drawings of them. We also investigated Paisley Patterns during number week and designed our very own patterns.

We have had so much fun during our first term and very much looking forward to coming back after to the holiday to learn all about ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ !

Pirate ships

The children in room 5 were set the challenge to build a pirate ship as part of their homework. All the children worked really hard to create amazing ships. Everyone used different materials, some used LEGO, others used cardboard and papas and one even had edible sprinkles on it! The children really enjoyed talking about how they built their ships. We held a show case for the children of primary 2b to come along and see all of our amazing ships. They left post it notes with things they like for us to read. We then had the chance to go to room 6a to do the same.

Wow week

fact Primary 2 have had an amazing time during WOW Week. We had lots of interesting and exciting people talk to us about their jobs.

Day 1. Primary 2 enjoyed a visit from the local police officers. They spoke to us about their jobs and brought their uniform and equipment with them.

Day 2. The children attended an assembly that told them about the role of young careers. All the children found this very interesting and we had an excellent discussion about what being a young carer meant.

Day 3. Braehead clan player Bari McKenzie joined us on Wednesday. He spoke about his career and brought all his equipment. We got to feel all of the pieces and decided they were all very light. We then dressed Mitchell up as an ice hockey player.
Day 4. A nurse came to visit today. We got to try on her uniform and try her stethoscope. We heard all about what she had to do in her job and how she helped to make people better.

Day 5. Today we were visited by a pilot and air hostess. We were very excited to hear about their jobs. The pilot flew a small plane for Logan air all around the UK. We asked her questions about where the planes could land and where they were kept at night.
Lastly we had loads of fun with our active schools coordinator. We played Batman gig and a superhero game! We were all very tired after it.
We had so much fun throughout WOW Week. A big thank you to Mrs O'Brien for organising it all.
